2011 Events and Appearances

January 6   I pulled three entries out of a vintage velvet hat, and the lucky winners received a signed Advance Reader's Copy (ARC) of Shot Through Velvet.  An ARC is a bound uncorrected galley or proof of the book, marked NOT FOR SALE, and printed before the official publication date. Most ARCs are sent to book reviewers and other publishing world insiders.  Publishers Weekly  gave Shot Through Velvet  a starred review calling it "first-rate," and I wanted to give some of you a chance to read it before it arrived on booksellers' shelves. Thanks for entering!

February 1  Official publication date of Shot Through Velvet. Check your local bookstore or order it online.

February 11   I will be signing Shot Through Velvet from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at One More Page Books, 2200 N. Westmoreland St. #101, Arlington, VA. The signing will be held during the store’s Grand Opening. I’m very excited about this new store, so if you’re in the area, please stop by and say hello.

March 16  I'll be part of the "Mystery at Noon" Series at the Library of Congress, at 12 noon in the Pickford Theater, 101 Independence Ave. SE, Washington DC. I'll be speaking and a book signing will be held afterwards. Obviously I'm thrilled to be included--it's the Library of Congress!

March 19  I'll be on the "Death With a Sense of Humor" panel at 2 pm at the Virginia Festival of the Book in Charlottesville, VA, at the Omni Hotel, 235 W. Main St. My fellow panelists will include Ellery Adams, Donna Andrews, and Rosemary Harris. Book signings will follow. The Virginia Festival of the Book is always a terrific event.

March 23  I'll be speaking at the James M. Duncan Library, 2501 Commonwealth Ave., Alexandria, VA.

April 23  I'll have a busy day signing books in Richmond, VA, along with talented mystery writers Jennifer Stanley, Donna Andrews, Maggie Sefton, and Ellen Crosby. From 2 to 4 pm, we’ll be at the Barnes & Noble at Libbie Place, 5501 West Broad Street, and from 5 to 7 pm, at the Chesterfield Town Center Barnes & Noble, 11500 Midlothian Turnpike.

April 29 - May 1  I'll be at Malice Domestic, the annual convention honoring the "traditional" mystery, at the Hyatt Regency in Bethesda, MD. On Saturday the 30th at 4:10 pm, I'll be on a panel called "Fatal Fashionistas: Do Clothes Make the Murderer?" Moderated by Peggy Ehrhart, the panel includes Juliet Blackwell, Jane Cleland, and Elaine Viets

May 2  I'll be appearing at the 16th Annual Festival of Mystery in Oakmont, PA, featuring more than 50 mystery writers. Tickets are $8, doors open at 4 pm and the program begins at 5 pm. The event returns to the Greek Orthodox Church in Oakmont at 12 Washington St.

May 24  A panel of Virginia mystery writers, Ellen Crosby, Donna Andrews, Sandy Parshall and me, will discuss "The Writing Life" at the  Reston Regional Library in Reston, VA, at 7 pm. Books will be available and we'll be happy to sign.
