We bid a fond farewell to Creatures 'n' Crooks Bookshoppe in Richmond, Virginia.
Above: Andrew, Ellen and Lelia behind the counter, at the last mystery authors' event at Creatures 'n' Crooks, September 12, 2009.
Staff, authors, friends and fans gathered on September 26 for a sad but spirited "wake" to mark the store's closing.
For nearly ten years Lelia Taylor and her staff ran the best (and lately the only) mystery bookstore in Virginia--and they made it
one of the best small independent bookstores anywhere. But the recession took its toll, and Lelia and the store will be missed!
Visit
Lelia at her blog at
Buried Under Books, where she continues to sell and review books and tell tales of her life as a bookseller.
Creatures 'n' Crooks' beautiful ceilings and skylights made it a wonderful environment to browse books or meet other mystery fans--and
their popular shop cat, Hamilton. (Not to mention Morgan the baby dragon, the store's mythical mascot.)
